Hinting that the meeting of the Left Front delegation with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has failed to curb the attack on Left Front workers by Trinamool Congress(TMC) cadres, Left Front chairperson Biman Basu said here on Wednesday that the Front will go ahead with a three-day long protest demonstration in the city starting from June 25. With regard to the arrest of CPI-M leader Bimal Bhandari in relation to the case of the murder of four Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers last week, he said “there is an ongoing trend of implicating the CPI-M leaders and workers in any incident that is taking place. This is being done in collusion with the police and State administration. In our meeting we have demanded from Ms. Banerjee to put a stop to this. But nothing has been done.”
The protest demonstration of the Left Front will chiefly comprise of district leaders from South Bengal who will uphold the instances of “violence and terror tactics” resorted to by the TMC. The family members of those who have lost their lives in political violence since January will also be present at the event. This becomes important in the backdrop of the alleged “unity” of the CPI-M and TMC to stop the rise of BJP in the State as claimed by the saffron party’s State president Rahul Sinha. Earlier, Mr. Basu also admitted that the issue of BJP was discussed in the meeting with Ms. Banerjee and the Left delegation had urged her to convene an all party meeting to deal with the issue.
Reiterating his earlier allegation against the ruling party in the State, Mr. Basu accused the TMC of “creating pressure” on Left Front workers to join the party. . Coming down heavily on the saffron party, he said “now the BJP has started to do the same. They are luring Left Front workers by telling them that the Front has got no future.”
As for the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee’s resolution in the Assembly about the murder of four TMC workers in Raidighi in South 24 Parganas , Mr. Basu said “ On June 16 the minister of the concerned department read out a resolution in the Assembly which accused Leftists and BJP together about the recent murder of TMC workers. Adapting a resolution in the Assembly even before the investigation is submitted is unprecedented. The resolution was part of the article 319. Such things do not take place in Parliamentary democracy.” He also claimed that the murders in Raidighi had taken place due to the “infighting of TMC.”
