Days after the former Calcutta High Court judge, C.S. Karnan, wrote to West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi seeking parole, his lawyer has approached the Trinamool Congress and urged the ruling party to support the former judge’s plea.
“I have spoken to some Trinamool MPs and sought their support for Mr. Karnan,” Mathew J. Nedumpara told The Hindu . When contacted, TMC general secretary Subrata Bakshi, MP, did not deny having spoken to Mr. Nedumpara. However, he refused to give details . Mr. Nedumpara “...has approached several people seeking support for the former judge’s parole. If there is any development, we will inform the media,” Mr. Bakshi said.
In March, Mr. Karnan reached out to Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati for support.
The former judge has been lodged at Presidency Jail after his arrest on June 20. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital on June 22.
The Supreme Court had sentenced him to six months in jail for contempt of court.
