: Mission Indradhanush, a Union Government scheme to immunize children from preventable diseases, was launched in six districts of West Bengal on Tuesday.

“The mission depicting seven colours of rainbow, targets to immunise all children under seven vaccine preventable diseases including Diptheria, Pertusis, Tetanus, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Polio and Measles,” stated a Press Information Bureau release.

A seven day special immunization camp was launched in six high-focuses districts such as North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Burdwan, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur to make vaccination available to the people.

Seven States

Mission Indradhanush, an immunisation programme, was launched on Tuesday in 33 districts of North-eastern States to vaccinate children by 2020, an official said.

“The Mission Indradhanush was launched on Tuesday in 33 of the 91 districts in seven North-eastern States,” a health ministry official said here.

According to the official, the mission would be implemented in eight districts in Assam followed by six in Nagaland, five in Arunachal Pradesh, four each in Manipur and Mizoram, and three each in Tripura and Meghalaya. - IANS

Tribal area

The immunisation programme Indradhanush (rainbow) was launched in Odisha’s tribal-dominated Koraput district under which nearly 4,000 children in the age group of 0 to 2 will be immunised.

“Our staff will provide vaccination to children and pregnant women for seven days from 7 to 14 of each month from April to July by going door to door,” said Koraput Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Laxmidhar Kabi. - PTI
