Four persons were injured in a clash between Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Hematapur village under Panrui police station when the BJP supporters were returning home after participating in a rally called by the State party president Rahul Sinha in the area.
People suffered injuries of arrows, and locals also claimed that bombs were also hurled and houses in the villages were ransacked. At least one person suffered bullet injury and was admitted to a State run hospital in the district.
Mr. Sinha, who met a few injured party supporters condemned the attack on party supporters. He said that the Trinamool Congress is apprehensive of the growing strength of the BJP in the area and is indulging in violent acts against party’s supporters.
“Where are the Trinamool supporters getting arms and ammunition in such large numbers,” the BJP leader said.
There was large deployment of police in the area after the violence. The police personnel under senior district police officers were conducting raids till late in the evening to apprehend those who were involved in the attack. Some people have been detained by the police.
The district has been on boil over the past few weeks as BJP-Trinamool clashes have erupted at several places in the district. On October 27, three persons were killed in political violence at Makra village under the Panrui police station when violence broke out between BJP and Trinamool supporters.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 of Cr.P.C were imposed in the area for nearly seven days and political leaders were not allowed to go in the village for few days.
