A discussion in the West Bengal Assembly on chit-funds operating in the State scheduled on Wednesday was deferred here on Tuesday.
The decision to defer the discussion to the next session of the Assembly was taken in the Business Advisory Committee of the State Assembly. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the meeting when the decision was taken.
The decision to defer the discussion was taken as the Assembly Session would conclude early on Wednesday — the last working day of the ongoing session so that members of the State Assembly can return home before Holi begins.
A proposal for having a discussion on the chit funds operating in Bengal was proposed by Ms Banerjee while participating in the discussion on the Governor’s address to the House last week.
The decision to defer the discussion on chit fund did not go well with the political parties in Opposition. The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front wanted the discussion on Saturday but added that they could not participate in the discussion next week as State Conference of the party would be underway.
The Congress legislators said that the discussion was postponed as the State government did not want discussion on the issue.
