CPI (M) admits that results of agitations unsatisfactory

March 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kolkata:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) West Bengal leadership had admitted that the results of agitations directed towards the Trinamool Congress government were not satisfactory. The issue was brought up in the CPI (M)’s ongoing West Bengal State Conference here on Tuesday. The conference will conclude on Friday.

CPI (M) State Secretary Biman Basu emphasised on the complete removal of inactive mentality among the party workers in order to revive the party’s political fortune in Bengal. In the political organisational draft report presented during the conference, Mr. Basu pointed out that despite the growing discontent of the people against the TMC government, his party had been unable to organise a large scale mass struggle. He also said that communal forces were trying to divide the people on religious lines.

“In this context the inactive mentality among the party members has to be eradicated, committee functioning has to be improved, number of whole times has to be increased,” added Mr. Basu.

Speaking in the same vein senior CPI (M) leader Md. Salim told journalists that the response to the movements initiated by the party organisation had not been satisfactory.

Erosion minority vote base

Asked about the erosion of the minority votes of CPI (M), Mr. Salim, without naming the TMC, accused it of using community leaders for political purposes to mobilise minority votes in its favour. He also said that the tactics used by TMC to get minority votes was similar to the one used by the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) to mobilise the majority votes.

“The game plans of the BJP and TMC to communally divide the voters in Bengal are supplementary to each other,” said Mr. Salim.

Evidence against TMC and CM in Ponzi scam

In a draft resolution, CPI (M) claimed that “concrete evidence” against the TMC and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had come out in the public domain. Elaborating on the claim, Mr. Salim pointed out that previously Ms. Banerjee had said that she raises funds for her party by selling her paintings.

“Sudipta Sen (owner of the Saradha Group) had admitted of buying one of her paintings for Rs.1.86 crore,” he said.
