A constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was on Thursday caught on tape beating up a differently-abled man at Howrah station in West Bengal.

After the video went viral and was aired by local television channels, Eastern Railways suspended accused P.N. Singh. “A.K. Singh, Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department of the RPF, will investigate the matter,” Chief PRO of Eastern Railways R.N. Mahapatra told The Hindu.

The victim was sent to a local hospital by the RPF staff. However, he could not be found during the day, Mr. Mahapatra added.

Senior Railway officials said the incident occurred in the early hours on platform No 1.

Railway personnel were apparently cleaning the platform when the victim refused to move out. The RPF constable started beating him mercilessly.

In the video footage, the middle-aged beggar on crutches is seen being pulled by his hair and kicked by the constable.
