Congress MP and former Union Minister Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday in connection with the multi-crore-Saradha scam.

“I was asked about the letters I had written to the Prime Minister,” Mr Khan Chowdhury said after being questioned for three hours.

The Congress MP had written two letters to former Prime Minister Manamohan Singh, the first towards the end of 2011 raising questions on the functioning of certain companies related to the Saradha group and another one in March 2012 retracting his allegations.

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said calling or questioning anyone doesn’t mean he has been made an accused.

Soon after the scam came to light in April 2013 , Mr Chowdhury admitted withdrawing the complaint against the Saradha Group was a ‘mistake’..
