The proposed coal sector strike on November 24 has been called off following discussions between the central trade unions who had called the strike and the Union Coal Ministry officials in New Delhi on November 22.
Trade union sources said that the strike was called mainly on four policy-related issues which included putting up mines on sale, move towards disinvestment of CIL shares, demand for allocation of blocks to Coal India Ltd. This includes some service-related matters as well.
The decision to defer the strike was taken based on assurances that the concerns of the central trade unions would be looked into.
Today’s meeting was attended by representatives of INTUC, AITUC, HMS and CITU, management representatives from CIL and two ministry representatives.
