: A two-and-a-half-year old child died of swine flu here on Saturday taking the death toll to eight in Bengal, said West Bengal Health Secretary.

The child was being treated at B.C. Roy Memorial Hospital for Children in the city.

“Three more patients tested positive for the H1N1 virus today [Saturday]. With this, the total number of cases has reached 115,” State Health Secretary Moloy Dey said.

Most of the cases are being reported from the North 24 Parganas district and Kolkata.

About 40 per cent of the total number of cases were being reported from these places, he said and added that some cases were also reported from Howrah and Hooghly districts.

Response to notice

Out of the four private hospitals which had been served a show cause notice, for discharging patients diagnosed with swine flu, about two of them have replied, Mr. Dey said.

“The hospitals were given a week’s time and asked to respond by Monday [March 2]. A couple of hospitals have replied to the notice,” he said.
