The Trinamool Congress on Thursday observed its foundation day with a message to its supporters that the ongoing probe by the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam will not hamper the electoral prospects of the party.
Party’s general secretary Mukul Roy, who observed the TMC’s foundation day at the party headquarters, said that the people will continue to extend their support to the party in 2015 and 2016. The civic polls of several municipalities, including that of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, are scheduled in 2015, while the Assembly elections in Bengal are scheduled in 2016.
“Be it 2015 or 2016, people of Bengal will definitely continue to be with Mamata Banerjee like they have been till now,” Mr Roy, replied to journalists on being asked whether the CBI probe in the Saradha scam would adversely affect Trinamool’s electoral fortunes.
“On this issue, there already has been a vote and the mandate is known to all, so this will have no effect,” he said.
A host of Trinamool Congress leaders Rajya Sabha members Kunal Ghosh, Srinjoy Bose, party’s state vice president Rajat Majumdar and State Transport Minister Madan Mitra are behind bars for their alleged complicity in the scam.
