: Alleging that the investigation in the Saradha scam is being influenced, suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kunal Ghosh sought intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Ghosh has been behind the bars for 18 months for his alleged involvement in Saradha scam.

In the four-page letter written on the official Rajya Sabha letterhead, Mr Ghosh has claimed that the investigation in the scam has taken a “suspicious turn”.

“The CBI has collected significant proofs, important documents and information in the scam. But in the last three to four months, the process has taken a curious turn. Businessmen, patronisers, promoters, who took direct/indirect advantages and/or had biz connections with Saradha, are being spared or untouched by the CBI,” Mr Ghosh said in the letter dated May 15.

The suspended TMC MP, who has been alleging that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the one who has benefited most from media houses run by Saradha group, said in the letter that the CBI is being influenced by “corrupt minds”.

“The CBI probe now seems to be influenced by corrupt minds, and is being controlled on different levels,” he said.

The journalist-turned-politician accused that the central agency was being used as a ‘platform of political understanding’.

“From my TMC sources, I have come to know that the TMC will support some Bills of your (BJP government) top priority in the Rajya Sabha and will indulge in mock fight to confuse the public,” Mr Ghosh said in the letter, adding that the CBI is not touching the main conspirators of the scam.

In his letter, the MP has appealed for a free and fair probe in the multi-crore scam.

“My utmost appeal to you is to ensure the investigation should be free and fair and the actual conspirators/users/advantage takers are arrested and punished,” he said.

The CBI is probing the scam as per directives of the Supreme Court in May 2014. Mr Ghosh was arrested by the West Bengal police in November 2013.
