January 22, 2015 02:21 pm | Updated 02:23 pm IST - KOLKATA:

A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will meet West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi in Kolkata on Thursday on the incident of alleged atrocities by the Birbhum district police on a woman, believed to a relative of a BJP supporter.

The woman, Haifunnisa Bibi, had alleged that senior Birbhum police officials had taken her to a forest at night and tortured her.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra is expected to head the delegation. Thursday’s meeting comes three days after another BJP team, led by BJP State president Rahul Sinha, met Mr. Tripathi on the same issue.

Meanwhile, a team of civil rights group -- Association for Protection of Democratic Rights -- will be meeting the woman in her home in Bardhaman district.
