: Senior Congress Leader Manas Ranjan Bhunia urged West Bengal State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday to involve senior leaders of the State in the party’s campaigns and functioning.
Mr. Bhunia’s remarks are crucial as it comes at a time when differences are visible in the party leadership over certain issues.
“In my opinion, the efforts of senior party leaders like Andul Mannan, Deepa Dasmunsi, Pradip Bhattachrya and Somen Mitra should be utilised in strengthening the party,” Mr Bhunia told journalists at Siliguri in Darjeeling district.
He said that the present political situation in West Bengal, where the Left parties have been rejected and the Trinamool Congress is witnessing a sharp decline in support base, presents an ideal opportunity for the Congress and by involving all the party leaders, the State unit can strengthen its position in the State.
After the Lok Sabha polls, leaders like Adbul Mannan, on whose petition the Supreme Court directed a CBI probe in the Saradha scam, has not been seen at the events organised by the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee ( WBPCC), which many in the State feel is sending the wrong signal.
The WBPCC however has spoken in one voice in opposing former Union Minister Kapil Sibal’s decision to represent Trinamool Congress in the Saradha scam case in Supreme Court and the stand of the State unit has been endorsed by the All India Congress Committee.
