Sajid, the prime accused in the “accidental” blast in Bardhaman district of West Bengal, was produced before a city court on Sunday which remanded him in custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) till November 20.
Sajid, whom the NIA has described as ‘head of Burdwan module’, was arrested by the West Bengal police on Saturday from Jessore Road near Kolkata Airport.
‘“A lot of cash, fake voter identity cards and driving licence have been recovered from Sajid,” NIA counsel Shyamal Ghosh said.
Describing Sajid as the “mastermind of the case”, Mr. Ghosh said that he (Sajid) came to India from Bangladesh in 2014 and wanted to settle here as an Indian citizen. The counsel also added that Sajid had remarked in court that he came to India after committing crime in Bangladesh and wanted to live as a citizen of India. Sajid was produced by the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Mumtaz Khan who after hearing the arguments of the NIA counsel remanded the accused in NIA custody for 11 days.
The NIA had declared a reward of Rs.10 lakh for any information leading to Sajid’s arrest.
