The 124th and 125th Championship Dog Shows, organised by the South of India Kennel Club will be held on May 6 and 7 at the Government Arts College Grounds here.
The obedience test, featuring dogs from the police, the army, and private dog owners would be held on May 5.
Speciality shows by the Great Dane, Golden Retriever, and Daschund clubs too would be held on the day, said Nagina Reddy, honorary secretary of the club.
Dogs from Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are expected to take part in the obedience test. This year 40 dogs would participate in the obedience test – a record.
The Mr. Gopinath Memorial Show combined with the Asia-Pacific Asian Champion (APAC) too will be held.
More than 400 dogs and 44 breeds from across the country are expected to participate in the dog show.
The Borzoi, or Russian wolfhound will be on show for the first time this year.
Different breeds of Indian dogs, such as Rajapalayam, Chippiparai, and the Mudhol too will participate in the show, said Ms. Reddy.
Judges from Brazil, Portugal, and Italy will be judging the dogs during the Championship Dog Shows and the obedience judge is from India, she said.
