A degree student landed behind bars for stealing two firearms from his lover's house in Mehdipatnam while a GHMC Vehicle Inspector illegally possessing a country-made revolver was held by police on Monday.
A .32 Webley and Scott revolver made in England and another Belgium made .22 pistol were seized from the student, Mohammed Salmanuddin, 20, pursuing Bachelor of Business Management in Gandikota College in S.R. Nagar.
He fell in love with a woman, a student of another college, living in Mehdipatnam and used to frequent her house, the Central Crime Station DCP J. Satyanarayana, said.
During a chat, the woman told him about the two firearms in her house. The student planned to steal the weapons and make money by selling them. Without arousing her suspicion, he stole the two firearms a week ago from her house. He was looking out for means to sell the weapons when the police got a tip-off.
The CCS team, led by Inspector P. Venkatagiri, raided Salmanuddin's house and seized the two weapons with 32 live rounds. The father of the arrested student has a reputed tailor shop in Hyderabad. Salmanuddin was the youngest of four brothers. His siblings are settled in Dubai.
The girl friend's father, Akbar Khan, from whose house he stole the weapons, is a real estate businessman who died in 2010. Records with the Asifnagar and Humayunnagar police stations have revealed that Khan did not have any weapon license. Police are now enquiring as to how these weapons surfaced in his house.
In another case, the Commissioner's Task Force (North) team caught a Vehicle Inspector of GHMC, Yousuf Khan, 56, and seized a country-made pistol from him with three live rounds.
Along with Khan, Haji Khan, 28, a contract driver with GHMC and Mohammed Rasheed Ahmed, 33, a businessman, who helped them acquire the weapon, were also arrested.
The Task Force DCP Ch. Ramchander said that Yousuf Khan had joined the GHMC as a driver and got elevated as Vehicle Inspector four years ago. He got into employees union activities and became the general secretary of A.P.M.C.H. Employees and Workers Union in 1994.
Fearing threat to his life due to rivalry with other union leaders and family disputes, he asked Haji Khan working under him to help him acquire a firearm. Haji Khan, in turn, approached Ahmed. The duo went to Gulbarga in Karnataka in December, 2011 and acquired the firearm a month later by paying Rs. 25,000 to a broker, Rahul Sharma.
