Amid high drama, the elections to Pennagaram Cooperative Credit Society was postponed indefinitely on Wednesday.

The DMK led by PNP Inbasekaran, MLA, had laid a siege to the society building on Tuesday evening.

The DMK, and CPI(M) activists blocked roads leading to the society after the returning officer failed to publish the final list of candidates.

Mr. Inbasekaran alleged that the returning officer was absconding. The protesters slept inside the society building after locking it.

On Wednesday, the police and revenue officials held talks with the activists. Later, a notice stating that elections have been postponed was pasted outside the society building.

Elections to Periyampatty Primary Cooperative Society has been cancelled.

Earlier, DMK, CPI(M), PMK, and DMDK had held protests in front of the society at Karimangalam.
