Coimbatore institutions do well in NIRF ranking

A Coimbatore-based government-run university, a few colleges, deemed universities and self-financed engineering colleges have managed a place in the top 100 institutions in their respective categories in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, which the Ministry of Human Resource Development released a couple of days ago.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a deemed university, secured the eighth spot among universities and the 15th best institution across categories. The university Vice-Chancellor P. Venkat Rangan said in a release the ranking reflected the tradition of academic excellence, outstanding faculty and world-class infrastructure at the institution that was only 15 years old.

The State Government-run Bharathiar University secured the 20th spot in institutions across categories. Among universities, it stood at the 13th place and was the only State Arts and Science University to top the list among universities in the country, said a release from the university.

The university secured 65.54 marks for teaching and learning, 41.70 for research and professional practice, 76.95 marks for graduation outcome, 52.63 marks for outreach and inclusive and 22.63 marks for perception.

Among engineering institutions, PSG College of Technology stood 29th at the all-India level with 50.31 marks, Coimbatore Institute of Technology 62nd with 41.59 marks, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, 68th with 40.28 marks, Karunya Institute of Technology and Science 72nd with 39.27 marks, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology 76th with 37.81 marks, Kumaraguru College of Technology 82nd with 37.19 marks and Government College of Technology 93rd with 36.35 marks.

Among arts and science colleges, the PSG College of Arts and Science stood 11th at the all-India level with 60.34 marks, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women 16th with 59.39 marks, Government Arts College 33rd with 53.16 marks, Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science 39th with 52.83 marks, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College 64th with 48.75 marks, Kongunadu Arts and Science College 67th with 48.67 marks, CMS College of Science and Commerce 72nd with 47.92marks and Rathinam College of Arts and Science 98th with 45.83 marks.

Among the management colleges, PSG College of Technology stood 33rd with 47.37 marks.
