Innovative technology that would harness sunlight continuously should be explored and developed to ensure sustained energy for subsequent generations, said Project Director of Chandrayaan I & II, Mylswamy Annadurai.
Delivering the inaugural address at the three-day national conference on ‘e for energy' organised by the St. John's International Residential School (SJIRS) on Sunday, he said: “There is no scarcity of energy resources, but affordable and safe methods to tap and manage energy should be conceived by the youth.”
Emphasising the need for energy literacy he said the energy conversion efficiency during the transmission, storage and consumption in end-appliances need to be improved.
Releasing the conference souvenir, P. Michael Vetha Siromony, Director and vice-chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) stressed on the need to associate science with society. “Youth should participate and contribute for the realisation of the millennium development goals,” he said.
Udayakumar Dharmalingam who designed the Indian Rupee symbol was given the young achiever award.
The conference will have five business sessions and two academic sessions. Students from over 60 schools are participating in the conference.
R. Kishore Kumar, senior principal, SJIRS said that energy is a significant area that requires greater research focus and needs to be included as a subject of study in schools.
