Youth hangs himself after girlfriend’s suicide

July 13, 2013 02:13 am | Updated 08:10 am IST - CHENNAI:

Exactly a week after his girlfriend committed suicide, a teenager hanged himself at his home early on Friday morning.

Aminjikarai police said A. Lokesh (19), a resident of Thiru. Vi. Ka Street, Raza Garden in Aminjikarai, had completed class X and was unemployed.

An energetic teenager, Lokesh fell in love with Sangeetha (19), a second-year B.A student at a college in Anna Nagar, who resided on Kanniah Street nearby.

“Lokesh’s family approved of the relationship but Sangeetha’s mother was not pleased. On July 4, Sangeetha committed suicide at her home by hanging, using a dupatta. The reason behind her suicide is not known,” said an investigating officer.

Sangeetha’s death left Lokesh heartbroken. He refused to go out of the house and avoided meeting friends, police said. His family took care not to leave him alone, fearing he would harm himself. But despite their vigil, Lokesh hanged himself in his room.

Neither left behind a suicide note, police said.
