Youth gets 10-year RI for rape

A 21-year-old youth was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2010.

According to the prosecution, S. Pradeep Kumar of M.G.R. Nagar promised the girl (aged 13) studying in class VII in a city school that he would marry her and took her on June 17, 2010, to Mamallapuram where he had sexual intercourse with the victim against her wish.

Based on a complaint from her mother, the police charged him for the offence under Section 366 (A) (procuration of minor girl) and Section 376 (punishment for rape).

Mahila Court Judge Meena Satheesh sentenced him to undergo 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000.
