A 20-year-old youth died after he was hit by an electric train near Perungalathur railway station on Monday evening. D. Kumaresan was working in cleaning the dense outgrowth of vegetation on either side of the railway track near the Irumbuliyur road over bridge.

Kumaresan, a native of Tiruvannamalai district, was driving an earth-moving equipment and had taken a break. He was walking too close to the railway track and was unaware of an approaching electric train to Chengalpattu from Tambaram. He was hit on the head and sustained critical injuries.

His colleagues called up 108 and an ambulance reached the spot, but by then, Kumaresan had died. His body was later removed to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet for postmortem.
