If students are answering questions and look happy and excited doing so, it is likely they are at The Hindu Young World Quiz .
This year’s edition of the event, which children across cities look forward to, will be held on Friday, at Kamarajar Arangam, Teynampet.
An ongoing Newspaper In Education (NIE) initiative of The Hindu , the quiz seeks to nurture the spirit of quizzing in children.
In addition to registration though schools, arrangements will be made for spot registration as well. The contest is open to students in classes VII to IX.
Following a written quiz in the preliminary round, six teams will make it to the regional finals.
Winners at the regional level will receive a cash prize of Rs. 12,000 in addition to certificates from The Hindu . The second and third runners-up will receive Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 6,000 respectively.
Regional winners from across 16 centres will compete in the national final to be held in Chennai on Friday.
Winners of the nationals will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, while the first and second runners-up will take home Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.
