His father is a labourer, and the financial situation at home many a time has been very bad. But that has not deterred him from harbouring the dream of making it big someday. A sword fighter since the age of ten, Balaji Arumugam , a class VIII student of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School has won 44 medals in a span of three years, one of them an international recognition.

Balaji is one of the many young children who fight several odds in life to reach places, gain accolades, and become sources of inspiration. Ten such children were awarded the Disha Young Achiever Award under the categories of sports, arts and education in a programme organised by the Ma Foi foundation on Sunday. Raju Venkataraman, MD & CEO, MEDall Medical Services was the chief guest.
