A hearty meal had better be a healthy meal - this was the message chef Sanjeev Kapoor conveyed at the Happy Heart Cooking Workshop he conducted on Thursday as part of World Heart Day.

The theme for this year is ‘One World, One Home, One Heart.'

At a function organised by Apollo Hospital, Mr. Kapoor created four “heart healthy” dishes, without compromising on the necessary carbohydrates, proteins and fibre.

Sucharitha Reddy, wife of cardiologist and founder of Apollo Hospitals Prathap C. Reddy and Mr. Kapoor exchanged the cookery books they had each authored. I. Sathyamurthy, Director, Cardiology, read the pledge to eat healthy and get active.

Several other hospitals, cardiologists and diabetologists also organised programmes. SRM Medical College Hospital organised a continuing medical education programme and a cardiac health camp for its faculty and staff and their families.

Lifeline Hospitals in Perungudi organised a walkathon from Toll Plaza to the hospital on Rajiv Gandhi Salai with banners calling on people to “Live life, love life.”

M.V. Hospital for Diabetes, Royapuram, organised a ‘Meet the medical experts' in which cardiologists and the hospital's chief diabetologist Vijay Viswanathan answered questions on maintaining a healthy heart. Arcot Promod Roy, cardiologist and founder trustee of Roy's Heart Foundation, Ramapuram, which works with Rotary Chennai Golden Star (District 3230) on several projects, emphasised the need for preventive cardiology.
