Making compassionate choices just got easier. The Animal Welfare Board of India has announced its first Humane Education Programme that provides people with practical advice on everything from buying cruelty-free products to getting help from the police using animal protection laws.
The project encourages educational institutions, corporate organisations, NGOs and residents’ associations to invite members of the AWBI to their premises to give a presentation on animal issues free of cost. Says Sriram Vepuri, Humane Education Officer – “This programme educates people of all ages and sections of society on subjects like environmental protection (and the impact of factory farming), how to control the street dog population, understanding animal behaviour and how to choose products that are not tested on animals. We want to build an inclusive attitude and promote empathy in people. The result will be less violence and disharmony in society”. The programme is part of a large-scale awareness campaign that was formally launched on World Animal Day which is celebrated internationally on October 4.
Companies, schools and residents associations can register at >http://awbi.org/heo for a free presentation on the animal issues that they would like to focus on.
