Woman throws acid on lover in fit of rage

The R.K. Nagar police on Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old woman who threw acid on her lover in a fit of rage.

The acid also fell on a teenager who was passing by. Both the victims were admitted to the Government Stanley Hospital for treatment.

According to the police, Swarnakumari of J. Street in J.J. Nagar had been in a relationship with Lakshmaniah (48), a conservancy worker and resident of Korukkupet, since the demise of her husband six years ago.

Around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Swarnakumari and Lakshmaniah got into an argument over him taking part in a birthday party hosted by her neighbour.

Enraged, Swarnakumari grabbed a brought a bottle of cleaning acid from the toilet and threw it on Lakshmaniah who was standing on the street. The acid also fell on Vinod Kumar (17), a passerby. Neighbours rushed both men to the hospital

After a complaint was lodged by Lakshmaniah, the police arrested Swarnakumari and sent her to Puzhal prison on Wednesday.

Both victims are in stable condition.
