Unidentified persons murdered a 50-year-old woman on the Puzhal-Vadaperumbakkam link road near Red Hills on Monday night.
Sources with the Red Hills police said the deceased, Mallika, was a resident of MMDA Colony 1 Main Road in Mathur, and the wife of a retired special sub-inspector of police.
Around 9 p.m. on Monday, Mallika and her youngster sister, Tamizhchelvi, reached the CMBT in Koyambedu on their way back from Kancheepuram after attending a wedding. The sisters took an autorickshaw and Tamizhcheli got down on the way near her house in Mogappair while Mallika headed to Moolakadai.
“She got down at a spot in Moolakadai and called her son Saravanan around 10.15 p.m., to inform him that she would be home in sometime. As she had turned up after more than an hour and her mobile phone was switched off, Saravanan and his brother, Satish, went in search of their mother,” said an investigating officer.
Around 6 a.m. a police patrol team spotted her body on the Puzhal-Vadaperumbakkam link road. Her mouth was gagged with a cloth and her gold chain weighing 12 sovereign was missing, the officer added.
A Red Hills police team probing the murder suspect the involvement of an autorickshaw driver in the killing.
