A 45-year-old woman, with help from her son-in-law, hacked her husband to death as she was allegedly fed up over his drinking and continual physical assaults.

The two were arrested on Thursday. K.K. Nagar police identified the victim as Ellappan (47), a mason who was a resident of Vijayaragavapuram, Saligramam. On Wednesday morning, Ellappan was found dead, with cut wounds on his body, at the junction of Arcot Road, Vadapalani and K.K. Nagar.

“We found out the body was that of Ellappan and a probe led us to his wife Kaliyammal and her son-in-law Bharathi (29). When questioned, she confessed to attacking her husband with a knife on the pavement of Arcot Road, along with Bharathi. The attack took place soon after Ellappan left the house on Tuesday night, after assaulting Kaliyammal in a drunken state,” said C. Mathiyalagan, inspector of police, K.K. Nagar.

Kaliyammal and Bharathi were arrested on Thursday morning and remanded to custody, police added.
