A 68-year-old woman died and her 40-year-old son was injured when the sunshade of a house in a multi-storied building collapsed on Tuesday morning.

Police sources Andal and her son, Kumar, were sleeping outside a tailor shop on the ground floor of the building located at the intersection of Medavakkam Main Road and Vellalar Street at Adambakkam.

The weak sunshade was already crumbling and crashed down at around 5.30 a.m, killing Andal instantly. Kumar escaped with a few injuries.

Andal was a flower vendor and also worked in a few houses in Adambakkam.
