An employee of a nationalised bank was arrested for allegedly swindling Rs. 2.43 crore from a church’s fixed deposit.
The suspect Raji Basant Rao (54) was a special assistant in the MRC Nagar branch of State Bank of India. She was arrested following complaints from the bank manager and the priest of church.
She had access to the bank account details of St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica. Without the consent of the operator of the account, she pre-closed the fixed deposits. She then transferred the amount to five current accounts and later to her accounts. She withdrew the amount using cheques with a forged signature.
The CCB apprehended her on Thursday and produced her before a judicial magistrate.
She was remanded to judicial custody.
