A Sessions Court in Chennai on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment one Poovarasi in connection with the kidnapping and murdering of a three-year-old boy last year.
In his judgment, the VI Additional Sessions Judge, R.Sethumadhavan said Rs.90,000 out of the total fine amount imposed on the accused would be given to the boy's mother, Ananthalakshmi, after the appeal time is over.
The body of the boy, Aditya of Virugambakkam, was found in a suitcase in Nagapattinam on July 19, 2010. Following this, the woman was arrested.
In his order, VI Additional Sessions Judge held the accused guilty for an offence under section 364 IPC (Kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and convicted and sentenced her to undergo seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs.50,000.
The Judge also convicted Poovarasi under section 302 (punishment for murder) read with 201 IPC (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) and sentenced her to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs.50,000. The sentences would run concurrently.
