March 22, 2014 09:42 am | Updated May 19, 2016 10:36 am IST - CHENNAI:

A 20-year-old woman staying at the Government Service Home in Chitlapakkam was found with bleeding injuries on Thursday.

The police said Shenbagam (20) is undergoing teacher training in a centre run by the Home. On Thursday evening, a couple of her roommates found her bleeding in their room. They immediately alerted the warden, who has lodged a complaint with the Chitlapakkam police. Shenbagam is being treated at Government General Hospital and recovering, the police said.

The police suspect Shenbagam, one of the 300 trainees staying in the Home, could have been attacked by someone. They are investigating the possibility of a personal motive behind the attack. However, they have not ruled out the possibility of the victim inflicting the injuries herself. “The victim’s friends, and officials at the Home are being questioned,” said an investigating officer.

Officials from the department of social welfare said they have instructed the Home authorities to increase security at the Home and training centre.
