Woman, daughter run over by train

Three persons were killed in separate accidents involving trains near Tambaram since Thursday evening.

On Thursday evening, Prem Kumar (19), a second-year commerce student, was travelling in an electric train between Potheri and Guduvanchery when he slipped and fell out of the compartment and died on the spot.

On Friday morning, a woman and her daughter died on the spot when they were hit by an express train near Tirusulam railway station. Madathi (65) of Shankaran Koil in Tirunelveli district reached Tambaram along with her daughter Chellammal (45) and grandson Chelladurai (23) by Podhigai Express and reached Tirusulam by an electric train. Chellammal and her son were working in a stone quarry in Tirusulam.

They were crossing the main line near Tirusulam railway station, when Madathi and Chellammal were hit by the Pearl City Express on its way to Egmore from Tuticorin. The women died on the spot. Government Railway Police, Tambaram, are investigating.
