The police said the woman took the extreme step as she was depressed after her husband’s death a week ago. P. Bhuvaneshwari, married V. However, his condition deteriorated and he died.
After his death, Bhuvaneshwari had appeared depressed and shown suicidal tendencies, neighbours said. Late on Monday night, she strangled her daughter, Dikshiktha, to death with a rope and then committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling.
Some relatives, noticing her absence on Tuesday morning, peeped through a window and found the bodies of the woman and her child. They then informed the Kasimedu police.
