A septuagenarian in Palavakkam was cheated by two youths who stole 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and some cash from her house on Monday.

According to police sources, a youth came posing as a plumber to the house of Nagalakshmi (72) on MGR Road.

He claimed that her son had sent him for cleaning the overhead tank and changing pipelines.

While he took the woman to the terrace and kept engaging her in a conversation, another suspect managed to enter the house stealthily and stole the valuables from the almirah.

The Neelankarai police are investigating.
