A 55-year-old woman died after her relative attacked her using a cement slab over a property dispute in Triplicane. According to the police, Janaki, a resident of Palaniamman Koil street, Mattankuppam, was working as conservancy staff in the Government Kilpauk Hospital. She and her husband Nagooran were living in the ground floor of two-storey house left by her father, while her sister’s family was living in the second floor, and a tenant occupied the first floor. Her nephew Raja used to harass her, demanding rights over the entire property since the couple had no children.

Last Tuesday, he quarrelled with her and Janaki threatened to lodge a police complaint if he continued to harass her. In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a cement slab. On hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed her to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries on Friday. Anna Square police arrested Raja.
