A 23-year-old woman in Pallikaranai was assaulted by two assailants and robbed of her jewellery weighing 23 sovereigns on Friday.
Police sources said Pushpa and her husband, a software professional, were living with a three-and-a-half-year old child in Kamakoti Nagar, IIT Colony in Pallikaranai.
They were living in a rented house on the first floor of a building surrounded by very few houses.
Pushpa's husband would leave for work in the morning. The house owners, living on the ground floor, would also leave for work. After sending her child to a school nearby, Pushpa would remain alone at home.
Around 2 p.m. on Friday, as Pushpa was waiting for her child to return from school, the door bell rang. She looked through the window and saw two men who said that they had come to deliver a courier to her. The moment she opened the door, the two youths barged inside and threw a fistful of fine sand on her face.
They then pulled out a small knife and threatened her. They also pulled out a rope from their bag and tied her. They took her gold chain and bangles from an almirah and fled. Sources said Pushpa was taken to private hospital for treatment and once normal, she returned to her native place in Andhra Pradesh. Pallikaranai police and special crime teams are investigating.
