Commemorating the birth anniversary of Sankaracharya of Sringeri Saradha Peetam, Bharathi Theertha Swamigal, Sri Bharathi Thirtha Trust, organised a state-level essay competition for school students on different themes during July 2012. The prize distribution event was held at Mylapore on August 15, wherein the Sringeri Acharya distributed the prizes.

Students penned their thoughts on subjects such as ‘Awareness of Hindu Dharma and achievements made by Adi Sankara,’ ‘Importance of Guru Bhakthi,’ and ‘The role of youth in the service of motherland.’

The winners are: S. Subhashini of DAV Higher Secondary School; A. Yamini of Sri Sankara Vidyalaya; and S. Vithula of Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya, Tiruchi. A special prize was presented to a differently-abled student from Kulapati Dr. S. Balakrishna Joshi Gurukulam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, R. Rajaraman, for his excellence in the subject.

On the occasion, Sankaracharya released the book ‘Sringeri Madam-Or Aayvu’ authored by R. Rajeswaran, a research scholar. The first copy of the book was received by Madras High Court Judge R.S. Ramanathan.
