The Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Indo-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industries celebrated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between India and Russia and 70 years of Indian independence by holding a cultural festival on Tuesday.

Sergey L. Kotov, Russian consul general, South India, presided. “I am happy to be a part of this cultural festival, which is a gathering of people from two nations,” he said. The event had several traditional performances by Russian artists, who enthralled the audience with their power-packed moves. “Their dances are very graceful, I loved the ballet. This is the first time I am seeing these performances,” said P. Meghna, a school student. V. M. Lakshminarayanan, chairman, Butterfly company, praised the performances.

“It’s been over 40 years since the centre was opened in Chennai. We have been working on promoting humanitarian ties between the two nations by organising contests, trips and other events for children. We shall continue to do more to build relations between the people of the two countries,” said Mikhail Gorbatov, director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture.
