Residents of West Tambaram, Old Perungalathur, Mudichur, Manimangalam and Varadharajapuram have requested the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) that the route numbers plying through Mudichur Road be made to halt at all the bus stops found on the stretch. Areas where prominent bus stops are located include Erikarai Street, Krishna Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Kumaran Nagar, Gandhi Street and Parvathy Nagar. At present, only route number 55 halts at most of the bus stops there. Enjoying impressive patronage, buses on this route number run packed most of the time.

There are a few other bus services that ply through Mudichur Road but do not stop at these stops. These services are 579A (from Tambaram Sanatorium Terminus to Walajabad), 583 (from Tambaram Sanatorium Terminus to Sriperumbudur) and 202 (from Tambaram West Bus Terminus to Avadi).

To reach Walajabad or Sriperumbudur, residents have to go to either West Tambaram or Mudichur bus terminus, where they can board 579A and 583. Similarly, to reach Avadi, residents have to go to Outer Ring Road or West Tambaram bus stop as the direct bus services that are operated to these areas do not stop at any of these bus stops.

“As only bus service 55 halts at these stops, share autorickshaws plying between Mudichur bus terminus and West Tambaram terminus are packed. If MTC takes steps to halt all route numbers at these stops, then MTC would generate more revenue,” says T. Raj, a resident of West Tambaram.

MTC officials say they have not received any representations from residents and steps will be taken only after a proper representation is received.
