Celebrating the World Environment Day on June 5, Akshaya, real estate company, along with Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI), an NGO, not only helped revive a local water body but also connected with the mass in raising an awareness on using eco-friendly products.
Taking a step ahead towards green awareness in Chennai, Akshaya has revived the small canal on a three-acre patch of land on the OMR Road near Padur that was fast disappearing.
Going further, Akshaya and EFI had set up an ‘Eco-Fair' at Hippocampus, Thiruvanmayur. Rare herbs from the Western Ghats; hand-made crafts and products made from the recycled materials, which were strewn on the revived canal at Padur by self-help women groups from Kanyakumari and other regions were put on sale.
Wildlife photo exhibition was organised for public along with the screening of wildlife documentary films like ‘Kurma' and ‘Elixir Poisoned.' A debate on topics Understanding Ecosystem Economics, Green Cities, Beyond GDP and Food Security in relation to Climate Change, was conducted. Commenting on these initiatives Srikanth Koorapati, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Akshaya, said, “For us, creating sustainable habitat does not end with green buildings. As a responsible corporate, we need to engage with the end user community actively to spread the green message and create awareness in adopting green practices.”
