‘Water study’ tour to Rajasthan

October 27, 2012 04:38 pm | Updated 04:38 pm IST - Chennai:

Rotary Club of Madras is leading 36 students from Chennai on a four-day ‘Water Study’ tour to Rajasthan as part of an initiative to create and instil among children the importance of water conservation. The team was sent off by Rotary District Governor, Raja Seenivasan, President of RCM Rajendran Sabanayagam and other Rotarians. The study group, led by A.S. Venkhat Ramani, Director, New Generation, will return on October 30.

During the tour, the students will visit places which suffer from acute water scarcity. Phagi, located around 50 km from Jaipur, is one such village where people have to walk a long distance to fetch water from ponds and wells.

Students will spend time with the villagers to understand their plight and the measures they take to conserve water.

The visit will also give students an opportunity to interact with experienced professionals and water conservationists and gain valuable knowledge that will help them understand the importance of initiatives that can help us conserve water.
