‘Water Expo 2011', the fifth edition of the exhibition hosted by Water Today, a monthly publication, will be conducted at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam from March 16 to 18.
The expo would have nearly 400 exhibitors across India and other countries, including Germany, the U.S., the U.K., and China showcasing latest technologies in water and wastewater management.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Naina Shah, Water Today's editor, said decentralised waste water treatment systems that use anaerobic technology without dependence on electricity would be one of the products to be showcased at the expo. The production cost is estimated to be Rs.12-15 per kilolitre.
A Singapore-based company that provides the technology to reuse wastewater for potable purposes would also be participating.
Besides the expo, a conference would also be organised on various topics pertaining to water and waste water industry. A two-day training workshop on zero liquid discharge, coinciding with the exhibition, would be held at Hotel GRT Raddison.
S.Shanmugam, business head of Water Today, said though there is potential market for water purifiers, it is still a fragmented area as most components are being imported.
The visitors could learn more about the various products and technologies available for water treatment, he said.
The organisers also said that cost of water purifiers has dropped over the past eight years from Rs.25,000 for treating six litres a hour to Rs.6,000 now.
A few Chinese companies have gained entry in the Indian market to make components.
