Watchtowers installed in Chennai

As a measure towards preventing crime and monitoring the crowd during this festival season, the police have installed 10 CCTV cameras and set up four watchtowers in Purasawalkam area on Tuesday.

Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran unveiled the new watchtowers and police booths on Purasawalkam High Road and said that 80 police personnel will be on duty in the busy shopping area.

Police personnel with binoculars and wireless equipment are posted on the watchtowers to monitor the crowd. The booths are equipped with LCD screens to receive the CCTV footages. Public address systems have been installed on the stretch to spread safety awareness messages and about traffic regulations in the area. The security measures are likely to be in place till Pongal.
