Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramaippu has warned the Centre that if the deal between Walmart and Flipkart is approved, it would bring together all traders across the country and hold massive protests.

In a statement, A.M. Vikramaraja, president of the organisation said they had protested earlier when Walmart and Bharti Enterprises announced a tie-up and ensured that they did not set up shop in Tamil Nadu.

“The Centre should take steps to protect the small traders in the country. At no point should they allow these large multi national companies to enter India,” Mr. Vikramaraja said. He said the federation had met Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and submitted petitions against such deals and multinational corporations.

“It is important to note that the Tamil Nadu government has been against such large corporations,” he noted.
