Two school girls were crushed to death after a nine-foot-high wall at the Avvai Home in Besant Nagar here came crashing down on them on Monday afternoon. The girls were playing as it was lunch hour. Another girl escaped with a broken right foot.
The accident took place at 12.30 p.m. on the campus of TVR Girls Higher Secondary School located inside the Home on Besant Avenue Road where over 800 girls are studying.
With exams going on for classes VI, VII and VIII, students dispersed for lunch break and were playing on campus. A few girls from class VIII were playing behind a motor room attached to a hostel block, a facility constructed in 1976.
The motor room’s wall suddenly collapsed killing the two girls and badly injuring one, an investigating officer attached to the Shastri Nagar police station said.
No arrests madeThe deceased were later identified as Monisha Kathiresan (13) and Nandhini Moorthi (13) and the injured, Sandhya Sakthivel (13), all class VIII students at the school.
The Shastri Nagar police have registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and are investigating. No arrests were made till Monday evening, police sources said.
