Walkalator to airport metro ready

The walkalator connecting the domestic and international terminals with Airport Metro was finally thrown open for public on Saturday.

The domestic section of the travelator, which was partly ready, was inaugurated on March 25 by Civil Aviation Secretary R.N. Choubey and Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan at the Chennai airport.

The segment between International Terminal, Chennai Airport and Metro Station was commissioned and thrown open for the public by Sriperumbudur MP K. N. Ramachandran, Chairman, Airport Advisory Committee (AAC). Pallavaram MLA E. Karunanidhi, Deputy Chairman, AAC, was present.

The walkalator project was taken up under the phase II modernisation of the Chennai airport. The walkalator connects the domestic and International terminals with the Airport Metro station.

The total cost of the walkalator is ₹80 crore, which was completed in two phases.

For the passengers’ convenience, two self check-in counters have also been provided at the mezzanine level, both at the domestic and International terminals, and the connecting tube is equipped with Flight Information Display System (FIDS) for necessary information to the passengers.
