Senior leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist) N. Sankaraiah urged people to vote for the Left party candidates contesting in 18 constituencies in the State for the welfare of labourers, farmers, weavers, women, small traders, youth, the differently-abled and transgenders.
Campaigning for the party’s Chennai North candidate, U. Vasuki, at Nammaalvarpettai near Otteri on Monday, he said the CPI (M) and CPI would form the left parties’ democratic front in Tamil Nadu.
“We will decide the future politics in the country. If we enter the Parliament, Indian politics will change, and so will Tamil Nadu politics,” he said.
He urged the people to reject the BJP and Congress parties in the Lok Sabha polls. He noted that the BJP alliance would divide the country on the basis of religions, while the Congress has regressive economic policies.
“Some media is reporting that there is a Modi wave. But even if we see through a magnifying glass, we cannot find a Modi wave in TN,” he noted, receiving applause from the crowd.
He regretted that Dravidian parties like MDMK had allied with BJP.
He reiterated the Left parties’ stand against privatisation of banks and insurance sectors.
